Women's Tennis Makes it 10 in a Row

Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova went 5-1 for the Owls

March 16, 2008

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The women's tennis team has now won 10 matches in a row after going 3-0 on their spring break trip to Florida.  The Owls won 17 of 23 total matches and defeated Boston University, the defending America East champions, as well as Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast.  Temple is now 10-2 overall.

Not only did the team go 3-0 but each individual had a winning record for the Owls.  Junior Felicia Frazier went 2-0 and was the only Owl to go undefeated.  One of her wins came in the last singles match of the Boston meeting, clenching the huge victory.  Sophomore Christine Clermont provided four wins throughout the week.  Freshmen Josephine Bergman (4-1), Lucie Pazderova (4-1) and Theresa Stangl (3-1) all had only one loss and were joined by sophomore Anastasiia Rukavyshnykova (5-1) and junior Dina Senkina (4-1) as well.  Rukavyshnykova's only loss came because an illness forced her to retire in the middle of a match in which she had already won the first set.

The wins were all a team effort.  Doubles teams of Senkina/Bergman as well as Clermont/Rukavyshnykova both went 3-0 as the Owls won the doubles point in every match.  The Boston match came down to the last singles match in which Frazier came up clutch.  The Florida Gulf Coast match was called due to rain but the Owls were able to accumulate four points and earn the win before it was stopped.

The Owls will hope to continue their winning ways against Atlantic 10 foes Duquesne.  This is part of another busy week in which the Owls will also face Villanova on Tuesday and travel to Penn State where they will face the Nittany Lions on Friday and St. John's on Saturday.
