PHILADELPHIA- The Temple women's gymnastics team signed one recruit, Janae Nichols, this season for early commitment for the class of 2012, announced head coach Aaron Murphy. This is the first early commitment of Murphy's head coaching career at Temple. Murphy is in his second season with the Owls as head coach.
Nichols, a native of Los Angeles, was a level 10 competitor for gymnastics by age 13. Nichols has become much decorated in her accomplishments over the years. She has earned the Region 1 level 8 regional and floor champion, second team All-American level 9 state, a level 9 national qualifier, level 10 state beam champion, second team All-American at level 10 state and was a regional qualifier.
Not only excelling in the gym, Nichols excels in the classroom as well. Academically, she has maintained a GPA of at least 3.5.
"I visited a lot of campuses and when I got to Temple I felt at home," stated Nichols. "The staff is awesome and I felt very comfortable with all of girls. The campus is state of the art and the resources are great for incoming freshman."
