COLUMBUS, OH - Sophomore Melissa Parker became the first Temple fencer to be named second team All-American since Lisa Honig in 1994, capping off a fantastic day for the Temple women's fencing team at the NCAA Fencing Championships in Columbus.
Parker finished 7th in women's foil and was named second team All-American. Sophomore Kristin Howell placed 9th and was named a honorable mention
All-American. She is the first Epee All-American in the history of Temple fencing. Freshman Grace Wu finished in 19th place in her first NCAA Championship. In sabre, Christie Griffith finished in 23rd place.
As a team, the Owls finished the NCAA Championships in 9th place among all women's teams.
"All in all, this was an excellent tournament for us. We had
our best team finish in a long time and had two All-Americans," said head coach Nikki Franke. "This young squad has gained a great deal of valuable experience which will go a long way in preparing them for next year."

The overall NCAA Championship was won by Ohio State followed by Notre Dame,Columbia and Penn State. The women's foil was won by Monika Golebiewski (St. John's) with Oksana Dmytruk (Ohio State) taking 2nd and Nicole Ross (Columbia) 3rd. Women's epee was won by Kelley Hurley (Notre Dame) with Reka Szele (St. John's) 2nd and Ewa Nelip (Notre Dame) finishing 3rd. Women's sabre was won by Sarah Borrmann (Notre Dame) with Siobhan Byrne
(Ohio State) second and Emily Jacobson (Columbia) finishing
3rd.
