Paul Murata enters his fourth season as the primary athletic trainer for the Temple women's basketball program. An assistant with the Owls for the first half of the 2004-05 season, Murata took over as the head women's basketball trainer in January of 2005.
Murata is no stranger to Temple University, having completed both his undergraduate and graduate degrees on North Broad Street in 2003. While an undergraduate, Murata worked well over 1,000 hours as a student athletic trainer with various Temple athletic teams to successfully complete the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) Board of Certification exam.
The Toronto, Ontario native went on to gain his masters in sports medicine at Temple. While at Temple, Murata continued to work with the Owl athletic programs before becoming the head athletic trainer at Lower Merion High School. He also served as a teacher's assistant for the anatomy and physiology I lab. Murata did all of this while working towards his master's thesis, which dealt with sudden cardiac death and the significance of the Myocardial Performance Index in Collegiate Athletics.
Murata then moved on to Lincoln University (PA) to become the Lion's head athletic trainer. In addition to his everyday health care duties, Murata also taught six different classes in the Kinesiology Department.
A licensed associate of the Pennsylvania State Board of Medical Examiners, Murata is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association. He is also a certified American Red Cross First Aid CPR/AED instructor.
