Junior Adin Mickle finished seventh in a time of 26:46 to lead the Temple men's cross country team to a second place finish at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday. Mickle cut 15 seconds off his time from last year's meet and was the top Owl finisher in the 112-runner field at the White Clay Creek Park 8k course.
Freshman Mike May was 11th in a time of 27:07 and classmate Charles Goold placed 13th (27:14). Freshman Eric Conklin finished 25th in a time of 27:47 and fellow rookie Ryan Feehery placed 29th (27:58) to round out the Temple top five.
The Cherry and White also competed at White Clay Creek Park earlier this season and all five runners made marked improvements. Mickle was 12 seconds faster, May was 20 seconds faster, and Goold cut 40 seconds off his time from the September 15 Delaware Invitational.
Host Delaware won the event with 41 points, followed by Temple (80), Maryland-Eastern Shore (85), Millersville (98) and West Chester (140). UMES' Peter Sang was the individual champion, finishing in a time of 25:53.
The Owls are off until October 27 when they travel to Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia's Fairmont Park for the Atlantic 10 Championship. Temple has finished in 13th in consecutive years after resuming the program in 2005 after a 20-year hiatus, but have been ranked as low as 10th in the A-10 coaches polls this season.
