Men's Track Ties Best-Ever A-10 Championship With Fourth Place Finish :: Owls also finished fourth in 1993 and 1996

KINGSTON, RI - The Temple men's indoor track team tied its best-ever performance at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a fourth place showing on Saturday at Rhode Island's Mackal Fieldhouse. The Owls previously finished fourth in 1993 and 1996 and had not placed better than seventh since 2003. Sophomore Tim Boeni led the way with a second (long jump, 23-1 ¾), fourth (high jump, 6-4 ¼) and sixth (200m, 22.72) place finish.

Senior Marquise Stancil also had a strong showing, finishing second in the 500m with an IC4A qualifying time of 1:04.46 and eighth in the 200m (22.93). He also ran the lead leg of the exciting 4x400 relay in which the Owls finished just 0.11 behind city-rival La Salle with a time of 3:20.46.

"I thought it was a great effort from the guys," head coach Stefanie Scalessa said. "It is definitely the direction we want to continue in."

Temple earned plenty of points in the throws. Freshman Colin Madison, competing in his second event of the season after joining the team after football season, finished second in the shot put (49-11 ¾). Junior Bryce Buffaloe was fourth in the weight throw (55-7 ¾) and eight in the shot (43-7). Sophomore Grant West added a sixth place finish in the weight throw (53-1).

Sophomore David Stonfer helped the Owls earn 17 points in the 500m as he finished third in the event in a season-best time of 1:04.53. Junior Jason Sullivan chipped in with a sixth place finish in the event (1:05.49) and teamed with Stancil, Stonfer and freshman Nick Argis in the 4x400.

Sophomore Josue Louis, last year's A-10 Indoor Rookie of the Year, finished third in the high jump (6-6 ¼). Freshman Maxim Chichkin was fifth in the pole vault (14-3 ¼) and classmate Miles Dryden was also fifth in the long jump (22-9 ¼).

In the triple jump, freshman Kijaun Wilkinson was fifth (45-7 ¼) and classmate Idowu Edeki placed sixth (45-0 ½). Senior Marcos Edghill was fifth in the 55m (6.57) and eighth in the 55m hurdles (7.88).

Charlotte won its first A-10 Men's Indoor Championship with 181 points, edging defending champion and host Rhode Island (156). La Salle was third (112), followed by Temple (87), Massachusetts (58), Fordham (53), Saint Joseph's (40), Richmond (31), Saint Louis (15) and Xavier (8).

Charlotte coach Bob Oleson was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year while Darius Law of Charlotte took home Most Outstanding Rookie Performance honors. Sean Quigley of La Salle was named Most Outstanding Track Performer.

The Cherry and White will take next weekend off before heading to the NYU FastTrack on February 29.
