PHILADELPHIA - Temple University senior Mark Tyndale has been named Owlsports.com Athlete of the Month for the month of January. It is the second Athlete of the Month honor in the Philadelphia native's career as he also earned the honor for the month of February 2007. Tyndale averaged 16.6 points and team-highs of 6.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in leading Temple to a 4-3 record in January. He also averaged a team-high 38.3 minutes per game and made 11 steals, ranking second on the squad. The 6-5 guard shot 39-of-80 (.488) from the field and nine-of-23 (.391) from three-point range. 1.6 steals over the Owls' nine January games. The 6-4 guard connected on 59-of-129 (.457) shots from the field, 30-of-65 (.462) from three-point range and 50-of-56 (.893) from the line. The senior co-captain's best game of the month came against nationally-ranked Xavier on Jan. 16. In that contest, he scored 22 points on seven-of-12 shooting (5-8 3pt range), grabbed eight rebounds and dished seven assists in the Owls' 78-59 win over the then #20 Musketeers. He also tallied 20 points against then #9 Duke in a 74-64 loss (Jan. 9) and had a game-high 17 points in a 60-58 loss at Charlotte (Jan. 12). On the defensive end, he blocked a career-high four shots, including one in overtime that sealed Temple's 54-53 win at Saint Louis (Jan. 20). For the season, Tyndale averages 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He ranks 11th in the A-10 in scoring, ninth in assists and steals, and 15th in rebounding.
