Steve Spiro, a 2002 Temple University graduate, is in his fourth year as an assistant athletic trainer at his alma mater. In his role on the Temple sports medicine staff, Spiro is the primary athletic trainer for the men's basketball team.
In his undergraduate years at Temple, Spiro served as the head student athletic trainer for the men's soccer and the women's lacrosse teams. He also was a student athletic trainer with the Owls' football team.
Upon graduation with a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology, the Onset, Mass. native enrolled in the master's program at the University of Miami (FL). While at Miami, he served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the women's volleyball team, covering the fall and spring seasons as well as all evaluation, rehabilitaition and treatment sessions. He also worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with the Hurricane football team.
After earning his master's degree in sports medicine from Miami ('04), Spiro joined the staff of the Pawtucket Red Soxs as an assistant athletic trainer. With the Triple-A club, he assisted the head trainer with injury prevention, daily treatment, taping and rehabilitation. He was also responsible for implementing the Boston Red Sox strength and conditioning program.
Spiro resides in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia.
