Player Profile

Position:
Announcer

Date Inducted:
February 16, 1984

He is perhaps the most famous voice in professional basketball today as the public address announcer for the world champion Philadelphia 76ers. He has traveled around the world several times with the Harlem Globetrotters and always spread the word about his Alma Mater, Temple University. He was graduated from the Temple School of Commerce in 1932. He announced all sports events at the University, from the first boxing match against Army at Mitten Hall to the days of the basketball Owls on the fifth floor of Carnell Hall. He announced the first Sugar Bowl game in New Orleans in 1935 where Pop Warner's football team lost a thriller to Tulane. He still is heard at Veterans Stadium for Temple football and McGonigle Hall for Owl basketball. He worked closely with the late Eddie Gottlieb as an announcer for the Philadelphia SPHAS and then with the Globetrotters. He also did Phillies games as Connie Mack Stadium. After five decades, he is still the voice at major events like tennis, boxing, wrestling and basketball. He always makes it known that he is a Temple man.
