Starred in both baseball and football. Has remained in public eye as one of the top umpires in major league baseball. Earned five letters as a Temple undergraduate. Two came in football and three in baseball. Outstanding ball carrier in football and a hard hitter in baseball. Played pro baseball with Baltimore of the International League. Became interested in umpiring and quickly moved up through the ranks. Took him only three years to make the majors in the American League. Umpired both World Series and All Star games and several world tours.
