One of the top lineman in Temple football history and winner of numerous honors. Starred for the Owls in 1938, 1939 and 1940 and was team captain as a senior. Earned All-East honors twice and played for the North in the 1940 Blue-Gray game. The outstanding guard also received All-American recognition. One of three brothers who were Temple football captains. Became and outstanding pro player and coach, winning all-pro honors in 1948 and 1949. Played with the Chicago Bears on their 1946 championship team and started for them in the 1947 All Star Game. Coached in the National Football League for 22 years and was credited with devising the safety blitz; was on the coaching staffs of the Bears, Eagles, Packers and Cardinals. Died in 1972.
