A standout for Temple during the 1966, 1967 and 1968 seasons, he set numerous records. An outstanding pass receiver, he accomplished the incredible by scoring touchdowns the first 10 times he touched the football. He holds the Temple records for longest touchdown pass caught, 90 yards; most touchdown passes caught, season, 14; most touchdown passes caught, career, 36; most yardage gained pass receiving, career, 1,848; most touchdowns scored in a season, 14; and most touchdowns scored, career, 36. He shares two other records-most points in one game, 30, and most touchdowns in one game, 5. He earned many honors as a collegian. He played three years of varsity football at Cardinal Dougherty High School where he was a starter every season. He captained Dougherty as a senior when he led the team in scoring with eight touchdowns. He earned first team All-Catholic League honors.
