One of the finest all-around athletes in Temple history, Bernardo was outstanding in football and baseball. Played four years of varsity football for the Owls and was the team's top ground-gainer in 1949. He earned All-East Honors as a senior. Played four years of varsity baseball and was team captain in 1950 when he led the Owls in hitting with a .421 average. He also starred at Germantown High in both sports. Earned All-Public, All-Scholastic and All-State Honors in football and was a Maxwell Award Winner in 1942. Made the All-Public baseball team and was Germantown's leading hitter. Has produced numerous championship teams while coaching Gratz, Germantown and Northeast High Schools. Past president of the Temple Varsity Club.
