Student Athletes of the Week

Week of 3/6 to 3/12
Name:  Candice Dupree Athlete of the Week
Candice Dupree
Sport:  Women’s Basketball
Year:  Senior
Position:  Forward
Hometown:   Tampa, Fla.
Notes:  Dupree averaged 23.7 ppg and 8.7 rpg to lead Temple to its third straight Atlantic 10 Championship and her third straight Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament honor. Dupree is just the second player in A-10 history to earn MOP honors three times (2004, 2005, 2006) and the only player to win it outright in all three years. Rutgers' Sue Wicks was voted the MOP outright in 1986 and in 1988 and the Co-MOP in 1987. Temple is just the second team to win the A-10 title three times in a row (2004, 2005, 2006). Penn State won the title four straight years from 1983-86. The Owls have won four out of the last five A-10 titles. In the tournament final against George Washington, the senior all-American candidate earned her 11th double-double of the year with 25 points and 10 rebounds. In the semi-final game against Duquesne, Dupree tied her career-high with 31 points, including 22 points in the first half alone. In Saturday's quarterfinal game against Dayton, Dupree earned her 10th double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. She shot 82% from the free throw line in three games, going 5-for-6 from the line against GW, 9-for-10 from the charity stripe against Duquesne and 9-for-12 from the line against Dayton. Dupree is averaging 17.6 ppg and 8.7 rpg.
