Larry Dougherty is in his first year as Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations, and fifth overall, at Temple. In his position, Dougherty oversees the media relations and athletic publications of the University's 24-sport Division I-A athletic program. He also oversees Temple athletics radio and televison operations.
Dougherty joined the Owls' staff in 2003 as an Assistant Athletic Director forr Media Relations after serving 15 years in the media relations office at Saint Joseph's University, the last eight as the school's assistant athletic director for media relations. Prior to SJU, he served as the SID at Nicholls State for one year and as the information director of the East Coast Conference for two years.
Active in regional and national organizations, Dougherty was named third vice president of CoSIDA at its 2007 Workshop. He also serves as the University Division Representative on the ECAC-SIDA Board and is the president of Philly-SIDA. He has previously served as chair of the organizing committee for the 2004 ECAC-SIDA Workshop held in Valley Forge, Pa., and the 2005 CoSIDA Workshop held in Philadelphia. He has also served as the chair of the Atlantic 10 Softball Games Committee and Women's Rowing Games Committee.
Dougherty earned both his bachelor's (1982) and executive MBA (1994) degrees from Saint Joseph's. He is in his fourth year as an adjunct professor at Temple, teaching Sports Public Relations and Collegiate and Professional Sports Issues in the University's School of Tourism and Hospitality Management program, His father, Andy, also served as the SID at SJU from 1972-81.
